1966 Mercedes Benz 230sl

Classic Era Motors restored this beautiful 230SL to a high quality driver from 2015 - 2016.   The body was taken down to bare metal and repainted in its gorgeous, original color of signal red. In accordance with the build sheet, the hard top and wheel centers were finished in black – the rare contrast of colors presented beautifully. The body was also the recipient of new bumpers, moldings, and trim.  The original white-grey interior was redone with a new, nearly identical, parchment interior. Items were either replaced or repaired so that they would function and present as new, including the original Blaupunkt radio. – At the same time, a new black soft top was also installed.

Believed to have covered only 43,000 miles from new, the mechanics where in great original shape, but to insure that the car performed as well as it looked, the engine was removed, and all mechanical components were evaluated - anything needing attention such as the brakes, seals, hoses, bearings, bushings, were all replaced or repaired as necessary. After all of the work was completed, the engine bay received a full detailing.

The car was sold at the Bonhams Auctions at Amelia Island in 2016.

The following write up is from the Sports Car Market evaluation of our car at the auction.

"Recent restoration, exterior paint beautifully done with no orange peel or overspray. Partial under-body restoration. Nicely done complete interior restoration, although new carpet fit looks a bit off in areas. Interior wood is new and perhaps too highly polished. Hard-top interior not restored, so gaskets, chrome, wood and liner are not in line with the rest of the interior. Some engine compartment parts replaced, some freshened. Fender swage lines present, some spot welds also."
